14th February - Extra Homework set by me for the group.

  • With the 2 A4 abstract fear drawings and finding 3 inspirational and relevant msuic tracks both in for Thursday, i am also going to add these 2 extra pieces as i feel the Homework we already have wont take long and we may aswell get as much grueling research under-way as possible.

If everyone would be able to go out, tomorrow and draw 3 A4 different scenes/environments in abstract form; this could be anything like a view from the park, A row of buildings, an alley way or even just a view of a room your sat in. This will give everyone a greater understanding of the different techniques and a chance to experiment with them. Focus on Line, shape, Possibly colour and Distortion. Using techniques that we talked about today such as Left Handed drawing, eyes closed drawing for certain parts, speed drawing, warped drawing and elongating and distortion. Make it really Fluid, really bizzare and basically, really abstract.

I feel this would be a great task to all go away and do so on Thursday we can take a look at everyone's views on Abstract and how they went about turning a plain environment into something more Energetic and Obscure.
The other piece that i would like you all too do is to take 4-5 photos of hands in a sin under running water. When we collect all these together i have ideas of Drawing over Photography with Line work to create again an obscure and Abstract image.

14th February - Group meeting, all attended

Todays group meeting we began with a summary of everyones public life drawing.
Everyone met the deadline.

We looked into different visual forms of basic fear; researching into existing animations and inspirational clips from films that may show fear visually to us.

The fundamental idea of the animation.
delving into fear in an abstract form,
Fear could be on the body, no escape.
The animation could be based upon the journey to work, maybe on public transport such as a bus.

Morgans idea of a beginning - Hands under a tap in a sink, washing.
- A way to establish the cloth as security for the character.
- Characters distorted and abstract journey on the bus is shown.
Morgans idea of an ending - The character could drop the cloth on the pavement after stepping off the bus outside work and from here, reality and his surroundings and distort and become blurs of fast moving image, ending with the paper scrunching up and folding in on itself in a ball.

One key feature that we are trying to avoid in this animation is cliche'd figures of fear such as clowns, skeletons etc. We are more aiming for a more abstract form of the human figure, a blur of colour, lines and  movement.

Homework set for the entire group.
Create an abstract A4 page of Fear and what we feel, think of and visually see.
We must also get one other person to create an A4 page using the same rules.-Time Limit per page 5mins.
By Thursday we must also gather 3 music tracks that we feel could be relavent to the idea. Inspiring and fitting to the theme.
Deadline Thursday 16th February.

Additional homework
Get drunken friends/strangers to scribble down drawings of leaves on an A4page for 30seconds.
Deadline Thursday 23rd February.

The First Group Homework. Here's Mine - Public Drawings.

Here are my Public Drawings of people.I have also included a few brief drawings of hands and an experiment with Printing dirt.

Nick Ives.

Over this weekend we have all been set the task to draw people from public observations,
this will give us a greater feeling of character posture, movement among the public and a broad range of different characteristics between people. These will be posted on the blog by 13th February.
